All our trips begin with a phone call from your fly fishing guide to discuss your skills and your wants out of the trip. We'll setup a trip based on your needs and you’ll find the best meeting spot for your trip. Once on the water you’ll go over basic casting, hooking and landing and other procedures for the day, then with your guide you’ll start working on the water.

At the end of the guided fly fishing trip, pictures and high fives will be exchanged, and away you’ll go with some great knowledge from a fun day on the water.

Fly Fishing Rates

Fly fishing in Highlands, NC can get expensive after booking fees, licensing, gear purchases, flies, leader, tippet, etc. At Cross Rivers Fly Fishing, we keep costs low to make sure you can have an unforgettable day on the water without breaking the bank.

We simply require a $100 deposit when booking a trip, the rest is due on the day of your trip.

Meet Your Guide

Forrest Johnson

Forrest started fly fishing at the young age of 10 years old. He found his true passion for the sport after his grandfather took him to Cherokee NC where he caught his first trout. He has been hooked ever since. He grew up fishing & guiding the waters locally around Western NC, and guided for different outfitters and fly shops before starting Cross Rivers. Forrest was a member of the USA fly fishing team where he competed against some of the best anglers in the country.

When he isn’t guiding he is fishing on his own trying to refine his craft, mastering new techniques and tying his own custom flies. Nothing makes Forrest happier than seeing his clients grasp the same passion that he has for the sport. Forrest is always happy to share what he knows about this great sport, and hope you’ll come enjoy it, too.
